Get In Touch

Follow the trail

We have worked hard to make sure the art trail is accessible by as many people as possible by ceating this recording of the trail. The video includes some interviews with local people involved in the trail as artists, business, community partnership trustees and others.

We hope you enjoy watching this recording and if you’re able to visit any of the locations and support our local businesses that would be great.

The trail ends on Saturday 24th July so please don’t leave it too late.

Details of the artists and business can be found below.

Find out about the artists

The Prudhoe Arts Festival and Trail is supported by local artists displaying their work across Prudhoe Front Street businesses.

Below you will find information and links for each of the artists – including where they are displaying.

Please do try and visit the local businesses to view the artwork for yourself if you are able – but we also have the video we have created in order to support the art trail, Prudhoe in general, the businesses and traders as well as the community as a whole.

Enjoy!

Derek Anderson

Displaying at: All Seasons Funeral Directors.

Address: 80 Front Street, Prudhoe, Northumberland NE42 5PU

Website: https://www.derek-anderson.co.uk

About Derek Anderson:

My name is Derek Anderson and I am based in the North-East of England. I create sculptural art forms and small pieces of wearable art, by employing the skills of a silversmith combined with the passion of an artist.

My relationship with materials and processes has developed over years of being a practitioner in creating objects of aesthetic quality. Some of my work is developed by looking closely at natural forms whilst other pieces are of a more abstract nature but still inspired by items or images. There are also indulgent times when the pursuit of fantasy allows my imagination to take over.

The materials used have a connection with me, an empathy almost, or a symbiotic relationship. I utilize the skills of a silversmith but employ the heart of an artist to manipulate metal; each hammer blow can place a mark but as it squeezes the metal thinner, the metal stretches and reforms as a result of each blow. Thus the item seems to grow in a natural way just as the sun, the wind and rain shape organic forms, metallic forms respond to the processes of heating, hammering and squeezing to grow to evolve into their own shape. This gives each piece a uniqueness – if you look at the flowers in the gallery you will see that there may be a similarity between one flower and another but each one is still unique, just like real flowers. This is born of my passion for creating items whilst also allowing the material itself to add to the process determining the final shape of the work.

Website: Ti Hurst Website

Facebook: Ti Hurst Facebook Page

About Ti Hurst:

I am often asked what I like to take photos of; as my photography experienced has developed, I now answer that questions with ‘I like to take photos about things’. By this I mean I like to use my photography to tackle social/political issues or raise awareness.

My first educational experience of photography was in my sixth form college, where I was told that I wouldn’t be able start the course, due to having no previous experience. Regardless of this, I pressed on with wanting to do the course; to which I was then enrolled in. I was determined to start an educational path with photography, to help me better myself, and my own work. After sixth form, I hadn’t decided on what I wanted to do, and my plans to go to a University weren’t going through my head at the time. It was only after a talk by the course leader of Sunderland University PVD that I chose to continue my photography path. Since being on this course, I now have an expansive experience in different photographic mediums; working with 35mm and medium format film.

About Ruth Thompson:

Hello, I am Ruth Thompson; I live at West Mickley in beautiful Tynedale in Northumberland with my husband and daughter. I am a willow and greenwood artist, our  business is called Sylvan Skills.

I have always enjoyed being outdoors with nature. At University I studied Botany and went into horticulture. Then I started exploring Greenwood crafts in my mid 20s working with Hazel and then with Willow. I began my training at the ‘Weekend in the woods’ in Cumbria with the likes of Bill Hogarth.

I enjoy the fact that my work is quite varied. I like being out in the woods cutting coppice for raw materials. But I also enjoy teaching groups and helping people to be creative.

I also enjoy making products in the workshop and getting into “the zone”.

I like working in a team with other people, so my skills are complemented by those of other people.

There are many reasons for doing the work that I do including working outside, maintaining a heritage skill, enjoying the creative process and enabling others to be creative. I enjoy the informal work environment that is flexible and enables me to change the direction of my work to adapt to changing circumstances.
